  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey or veggie crumbles)
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss or provolone cheese
  • Instructions

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté for about 10-12 minutes until caramelized.
  • Once the onions are caramelized, stir in minced garlic, dried thyme, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until it’s browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Mix in Worcestershire sauce and beef broth, bringing to a simmer. Allow to cook down for 5-6 minutes.
  • Toast the hamburger buns lightly. Spoon the beef and onion mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns. Top with shredded cheese and broil for 2-3 minutes if desired.
  • Place the top halves of the buns on the Sloppy Joes, serve immediately.
